Out of curiosity, what ethnicity is Padma?
She’s Indian-American.
I saw Dune and A game of thrones on amazon for a good price. How highly do you recommend them? I love good fantasy and sci fi and need some new books to read.
YES
What advice would you give to someone who hopes to someday be self-employed, supporting themselves on art or writing?
Work at it every single day. You gotta be really good and/or really lucky to make a living off of anything creative.
what are your plans for Dora? I notice she Isn’t int many comics lately.
I am never ever ever going to just tell people what my plans for a character might be. I can understand why people ask, but I kind of wish they wouldn’t bother. I’m sure the focus will swing back around to her sooner or later, I’ve just been working on other characters more lately.
Normally, metal is not my thing, but Deathmole is an exception. I know you’ve got some of the songs up on Bandcamp, but they’re not all of the ones I have (from the livejournal and linked in various comic’s entries). Do you have any plans to dig up all the old MP3s and put them up on Bandcamp as well?
The older tracks are on some old computers that I’d have to plug in and pull stuff off of. They also need to be remastered into higher quality if I wanna put them up on Bandcamp. I’m thinking about just going back and re-recording some of my favorites, that seems like it would be more fun for me to do.
Hey Jeph! This seems to be the opportune time to ask, what’s everyone’s (realistic) dream job? It seems Marten would love to make a living as a lead guitarist and I guess Dora is feeling pretty boss owning her own coffee shop, but we don’t have much to go on for the rest of the cast!
A lot of the comic is about people figuring out what they want to do with their lives, so this is something I think I’ll save for the comic itself.
That being said, I think Marigold would like to be a professional gamer or perhaps a silly girly manga artist a la Fruits Basket.
Will Martin’s father be getting married sometime soon?
I assume so, but I’m not sure I want to do it in the comic. Weddings are very hard to make interesting or funny comics out of.
Watching you draw on ustream, it seems sometimes like an intimate process. Do your characters ever talk to you as you’re drawing them: “Hey that tickles!”…”Dude, seriously? They’re not quite *that* big.”… etc?
No
Wow you really like to end the week with big moments, don’t you? I think #2055 is your best one yet! Do you end weeks with these game-changers on purpose? And if so, why? Do you like to have a few days to plan the Monday scripts so that they are really good follow-ups, or do you enjoy making us squirm for the weekend? Either way, liking the fact that marten actually has some game for once!
A lot of the time it just works out that way, but I will sometimes move things along so a big moment will hit on a Friday. Partly this is because I like giving readers a whole weekend to chew on things, and partly it’s because Friday strips are frequently the hardest for me to do, because I know I’ve got a weekend coming up. It’s easier to go with something I *know* is going to happen rather than try to feel my way through an unknown script while going “aaaa I just want it to be the weekend” the whole time.
That isn’t to say that I only “work for the weekend,” but by the end of a typical week I am more than ready to take a couple days off and recharge the creative batteries, so to speak.
Actually, this question might be more for your wife. My wife is about to start on Celexa, and I’m wondering what I can expect or what I should be ready for. She’s transitioning from Zoloft to Celexa, and she’s never taken it before.
I’m on Celexa (my wife is on other stuff) so I think I can field this one. The main thing is, everybody’s brain chemistry is different, so we all respond to drugs in different ways. I’ve heard some horror stories about Celexa, but it’s worked out very well for me. The main side effects I’ve experienced have been intermittent dizziness (this went away after a few weeks) and fatigue (I can easily sleep for 12 hours at a time if I let myself). But like I said, everybody is different. Just remember that it takes a couple weeks to build up to its effective level in your bloodstream, and it also takes time for your brain to adjust to it.
Hey, i read QC, Just thought it’d be a good idea to put a comment section underneath the comic
Absolutely not. Comments sections are among the worst aspects of the internet.
Do you plan on updating Indietits in the near/distant future? Or will you just continue writing the occasional yelling bird comic for emergency QC filler / tumblr posts?
One of these days I’m gonna sit down and crank out a couple hundred new IndieTits strips to put out in book form. They’re fun and easy to make, so it shouldn’t take me too long.
Absolutely love the comic. Weekends now make me sad. Anyway, onto the question. Who would you like to play your characters in a tv show or movie? Also, would you ever sign off/work on a QC movie or show?
I don’t really watch TV or movies, so I don’t know enough actors to properly cast my whole comic. That being said, I think Jake Gyllenhall would make a pretty good Marten.
I’d happily do a QC movie or show if someone offered, but it’s not something I’m actively pursuing.
