So I’ll be the first to ask (hopefully): Does Momo’s “charge” start with her head and go out through her skin, or does she zap her intended target with her ponytails?

The capacitors are located in her torso, the charge is directed through whatever part of her is contacting the recipient.

As we progress to December, do you think the QC universe will move into winter again at some point? I’m a huge winter guy and I really liked that whole winter setting in the comic last time.

Definitely.

Do you think that Momo’s new appearance has changed the way you write her? I can’t help thinking of her like a new character since she got her new chassis and I feel like her personality has changed a little bit in the strip. Though maybe that’s just because she’s getting outside and doing new stuff now.

Probably to some extent. She can be a little more assertive in a larger chassis, or at least she feels like she can be.

Hey Jeph, I’m president of a mental health awareness organization at my school. I was wondering, would you ever agree to doing a speaking gig? If so, how would be best to contact you?

Email’s listed on the site!

How many people do you expect to ask you whether the Gary Phenomenon is a real thing?

I honestly wasn’t expecting anybody to take it seriously, it was pretty cool to find that a lot of people were looking it up online to see if it was real.

Hey, Jeph, what is your opinion of Modest Mouse’s work after and including “Good News for People Who Love Bad News”? I’m dreadfully curious.

I liked Good News a lot, but I haven’t really kept up with the band since then.

Not sure if you have been asked this before but if a television company like Adult Swim, MTV, or Fox offered to turn QC into an adult animated series would you be willing to do so as long as you got complete creative freedom?

That or a big enough paycheck.

How does Momo feel about Marigold? Does Momo see her as a friend, or a family member? Sister? Daughter? Mother?

Somewhere between friend and big sister, I think.

Why does everybody dislike Clinton that much? He doesn’t even really seem that creepy.

Who cares

A few comics have their characters age in real time — For Better or Worse comes to mind — but most have their characters set in a sort of suspended animation, somehow celebrating Christmas every year for decades but never getting any older. Is QC of the latter, or have Marten and Faye been friends for eight or nine years?

Time progresses much more slowly in the comic than in real life due to its pacing (or lack thereof). I’d say it’s been no more than a couple years in comic-time.

I really love the way you in which you created Marten’s shirt for comic #2073: What A Fool Believes. You gave it depth, distortion, and everything the plaid shirt I have on right now shows.

One-color plaid is a really easy pattern to fake in Photoshop. Thick black brush set to 50% opacity, and then just follow the contours of the wearer’s body.

I MEAN WHY YES THANK YOU I SPENT SEVERAL HOURS MAKING SURE MARTEN’S SHIRT WAS RENDERED PERFECTLY

I feel like that was the first time you used thought bubbles in a comic. I kinda liked it. Worked really well for this issue. Wait that wasn’t a question. Uh… Are socks comfy?

It’s the second or third time, if I remember right. I did it a couple times wayyyy back at the beginning of the comic. I don’t usually like doing thought bubbles, because showing exactly what a character is thinking is less fun than implying it through their speech or action or expressions. But sometimes it’s the only way to convey what you’re going for.
